Capturing
and Encoding
Capturing
your Content
Before you can encode your content it will have to be captured
into digital format. If the source is from an analogue device,
such as an analogue camera or VCR, you will need an audio-video
capture card in a PC along with suitable a/v capturing software.
Many capture devices are available today, but to ensure
that the highest quality image and audio-video synchronisation
is maintained, a capture device specifically designed for
encoding is recommended. A range of high quality capture
cards for the Enterprise and Professional Broadcast markets
is available from Winnov a world leader in this market.
If
your source is already in digital format, ie. from a digital
camera, you will be able to feed this into a PC with the
appropriate USB or FireWire digital input. However, if your
source is SDI format you will need a capture card with an
SDI input.
Encoding
your Content
To produce a simple live web cast stream you can use either
Windows Media Encoder or Real Producer. For on-demand webcasts
in both formats, encoding products such as Cleaner 5 can
be used. However, if you want to want to integrate Rich
Media, such as graphics, images, PowerPoint slides, text
and animations, synchronised into the stream will require
a lot more effort if it is done manually. This is achieved
by inserting 'events' into the stream at the appropriate
time. An easier way is to use professional tools to simplify
this process and provide a level of automation which minimises
the possibility of mistakes occurring by loading the wrong
slide, often associated with a manual process.
To
produce Rich Media web presentations for both LiVE and on-demand
presentations, with no HTML programming knowledge, a range
of products is available from EDAS.
