With
conventional tools only simple live streaming of video has
been possible, the addition of extra information such as
graphics, slides, images, text, hyperlinks and chat/voting
areas has been very difficult to do. However, this is now
possible without any HTML or specialist knowledge using
LiVE-CONTROL from IMS.
Rich
Media goes LIVE!
Using
LiVE-CONTROL, powerful live rich media broadcasts can be
made by simply dragging and dropping the desired slide,
graphic, animation or text onto the timeline and clicking
the 'stream' button at the required time. This action provides
perfect synchronisation with the video stream. Thus, the
web page is dynamic and offers, at the appropriate time,
the viewer with additional information and services, such
as relevant images, slides, chat/voting areas or buttons/links
for on-line purchases.
LiVE-CONTROL's
easy to use interface considerably reduces errors as there
is no need to type in a URL to 'slot' in a graphic or slide.
Rapid changes to the programme can easily be made as new
items can be placed on the time line in their native format,
LiVE-CONTROL automatically scales and converts the item
into a web-compliant format. LiVE-CONTROL support over 60
different file types and new ones are being added as needed.
Useful
features like 'clickable' PowerPoint images, autoplay of
bulletins, banners or logos during the live broadcast and
the ability to record the presentation, maintaining all
Rich Media synchronisations, for viewing later as an on-demand
presentation make this the leading product for LiVE Rich
Media presentations.
There
are many applications for live broadcasts integrated with
rich media delivered over the Internet. Such as, press and
budgetary conferences, interviews, concerts and events,
chats and live coaching in the educational sector as well
as TV for trade fairs and businesses.
The
following Rich Media Presentation, covering the Tutorial
of LiVE-CONTROL, took us less than an hour to produce from
the required rich media components. Although we had the
basic format completed in less than 15 minutes, the remainder
of the time was spent in 'fine-tuning' the slide synchronisations
to get the desired slide changes within 1/100 of a second.
Once we were happy with the finished presentation, we exported
it sumultaneously in both REAL and Windows Media formats.
We only exported them to a single bandwidth speed but they
could have been exported to multiple bandwidth settings
for each media presentation format just as easily.
To get
the full benefit of the presentation you will need to have
a connection speed of 128Kb or better. If you have a slower
connection, you should still be able to hear the presentations
and see the slides, but the video may be a bit slow. If
you want to use these products for your own applications,
the presentations can be set to use slower connection speeds
and correspondingly smaller video windows.
